In January, Winter Storm Fern left tens of thousands of homes across Western North Carolina without power. We all know that here in Western NC, losing electricity doesn’t just mean dark rooms and cold sandwiches; it often also means no heat. That’s because many homes in the area rely on electric heating.
That’s why so many families who went through “Snowmageddon” in ’26 are now making sure they have a serious backup heat source and the fuel to run it … especially before the next winter storm warning comes blasting over the TV or radio.
Why Kiln-Dried Firewood as a Backup Heat Source?
With a indoor wood stove or properly inspected fireplace:
- You can heat a room or a whole house depending on its size and layout
- You can heat water for sanitation. And you can cook or reheat your meals
- The most important part is it is a backup heat source you can run inside the house
- Fire always works (without electricity) as long as you have a wood-burning stove with a vent
